Birding in and around Malmö

About this initiative

Birding, or birdwatching as it’s also called, appeals to several of our sensory organs such as seeing birds in their different seasonal plumages, listening to their calls and songs, and the scent of their habitats. I’ve been birding since 1994, and during the COVID-19 pandemic I’ve discovered that it’s a great way to have social interactions with my friends but at a distance and outdoors. I’ve realized that I really enjoyed sharing my passion for birds. The tradition continues under the banner of Birding Therapy (aka Fågelterapi) as a way to share birding and get more people into this satisfying pastime. There is no “correct” way to do this because we’re all different and everyone relates to birds in their own way. However, there is one important aspect to Birding Therapy, which is to take it slow. By taking it slow, one can truly enjoy the experience without over-exertion. Science tells us that being in nature, and particularly around birds, not only helps relieve stress but the desire for it is in our genes.

Through this initiative, I offer both free weekend group birding walks and bespoke private walks, also on weekends (see below) to people from all walks of life who are interested in, or curious about, nature in the city. Let’s go birding together!

Donate to this initiative

Your contributions will be directly invested into Birding Therapy. The donations will be used to purchase birding field guides and binoculars for use during bird walks, and public transportation tickets for participants in need. Part of the donations will also be used to purchase beginner field guides and entry-level binoculars for youths from under-represented demographics to foster and develop their interest in birding and nature.
